Eliza Doolittle Day!

Julie Andrews as Eliza Doolittle, selling flowers

This week is an auspicious one, for Wednesday, May 20th, is Eliza Doolittle Day, as foretold by Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. Celebrate with singing, with proper elocution, with chocolates, and by witnessing the execution of your enemies. Well, at least have some chocolates.

There are far more interesting real British women who lived during the time that “My Fair Lady” takes place-there were even suffragists so “radical” in the 19th and turn of the century their American counterparts asked them to be more peaceful in their cause for the advancement of the civil rights of women rather than commit acts of “terrorism” as bombings
